Collect customer data… NOW.
Everyone in business knows (given my experience in working with dealers for 15 years, actually not everyone knows this!) that, it is WAY cheaper to keep a customer than to find/get a new one. If you know and realize this FACT, then the next logical question is, “how do I sell to them?” If you have collected customer data, then you are 80% of the way to knowing the answer to that question.
Yes, collecting and housing customer info is a pain in the ass but the sale you are making today should be leading you to another sale 6 months, 2 years, 5 years, down the road – so just do it.
Planning on closing up shop in the next 2-5 years? Your business can be more valuable with the proper depth and amount of customer data. Planning on staying in business the next 2-5 years? If you’re trying to sell to a past customer, if you have the right data, you will have a better idea of how to either passively or directly approach and sell.
